Aims of the module and acquired skills

Understanding of role of atmospheric chemistry and dynamics, with focus on air quality and its interactions with global and regional climate.

Basic knowledge in advanced atmospheric measurement and modelling techniques.

  • Atmospheric thermal-dynamic structure
  • Wind systems, advection and turbulent diffusion
  • Atmospheric composition
  • Photochemistry, radicals and gas phase kinetics
  • Anthropogenic impacts on tropospheric chemistry
  • Modelling of chemistry and transport of trace gases
  • Remote sensing of pollutants
  • Experimental methods for analysis of atmospheric trace gases
  • Aerosol radiative forcing on atmosphere
  • Global change of atmospheric composition and impact on climate
4 Teaching/Learning methods

Lecture and tutorials (compulsory attendance)
5 Requirements for participation

Formal: Non. Bachelor degree in natural Sciences.

With regards to content: Basics of mathematics and physics (mandatory)
6 Type of module examinations

Oral examination.
7 Requisites for the allocation of credits

Successful participation in the tutorials (50 % of the possible points have to be obtained) and passing the examination.

A failed examination may be repeated twice. Additional possibilities to repeat an examination exist according to the examination regulations (§ 20 section 1).
8 Compatibility with other Curricula
  • Other modules of equal value can be admitted and announced by the examination board after agreement.
  • Suitable as an elective course for mathematics, physics and geoscience students
