Remote Sensing for Water Vapor Profiling
Water vapor is a central component of Earth’s climate system and crucial for the atmospheric water cycle. In a changing climate, high-quality observations are of high relevance for climate model evaluation, documentation of changes, and improved atmospheric process understanding.
In this METFUT course, we will revisit the role of water vapor in the climate system and atmospheric water cycle. In designated lectures at the beginning of the semester, we will review the current and future global observation system with a focus on water vapor profiling methods. Throughout the semester, students will work on hands-on research projects with observed and simulated remote-sensing measurements. At the end of the semester, students will present their project results in a graded presentation.
METFUT involves participating in the AlgoEarth Workshop “Smart Earth Observations Systems Design” during which leading experts will convene to discuss and develop challenges regarding future Earth system observations.
