Dust-Ocean Modelling & Observing Study (DOMOS)
The Dust-Ocean Modelling & Observing Study (DOMOS) funded by ESA begins this week. The aim is to improve the understanding of interactions between dust aerosols and the ocean in climate change. Six European partner institutions collaborate in DOMOS. Led by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, they will develop a retrieval product for dust deposition based on satellite observations, evaluate dust deposition in ECMWF's CAMS reanalysis, and test the assimilation of additional satellite products for aerosols. The project contributes to create improved data on desert-dust aerosols for studying aerosol radiative effects and impacts on ocean biogeochemistry.
