Research Interest

My research interest is the planetary boundary layer of the earth atmosphere, in particular boundary layer turbulence. I work on issues of large-scale organisation and intermittency of turbulence and the interaction of turbulence with clouds and the surface. A second focus of my physical endeavour is the scale dependence of physical processes and their parameterisation. To study turbulence, I primarily use Numerical simulation (DNS, LES) of atmospheric flow and am also interested in development and application of novel numerical methods and algorithms for atmospheric flow simulation using massive parallel computing.
