Getting Around in Cologne

Public Transport

There are many buses, trams (Straßenbahn) and S-Bahn trains which operate through the whole city. The public transport is the best way of getting around Cologne.
In the conference fee a seven-day ticket (valid from Sunday to Saturday) for public transport in Cologne is included. You will get the ticket on the Registration/Reception Evening in the cafeteria of the University of Cologne from 18:00 to 20:00 . The cafeteria is located opposite to the conference site (Building 118 / blue arrow on the map beneath). Participants arriving at a later date get the ticket on the conference site.

 

From/to the Conference Site

The conference will take place in the Institute of Geophysics and Meteorolgy of the University of Cologne, Zülpicher Str. 49a, 50674 Köln. The red arrow points towards the entrance of the building (310) on the map below. The Institute is located close to the main buildings of Cologne University south-west of the city center, see city map. The Poster sessions will take place in the second floor of the cafeteria opposite to the Institute. The blue arrows points at the cafeteria in the map (building 118).
You can easily reach the conference site taking number 9 tram form/to Dasselstraße/Bahnhof Süd (green arrow). Tram 9 goes every 10 minutes during the day (after 20 h every 20 minutes). The Köln-Süd train station is located above the tram stop, where regional trains from the city periphery (and also from Cologne Central Station) operate.

 

 

 

 

From Maritim Hotel

The Maritim Hotel is directly located at the tram stop Heumarkt. Take number 9 tram in the direction of Sülz. After 4 stops (about 8 minutes) exit at Dasselstraße/Bahnhof Süd. Walk along Zülpicher Street (in the direction of tram). The conference site is on your left hand side after about 200 metres. You can also walk all the way from the hotel to the conference site. It will take approx. 30 minutes, see map. (Taxi: ~ 8 ?)

 

From Cologne Central Station

Take the underground lines 16 or 18 to the Neumarkt stop. From there take the number 9 tram (above ground) in the direction of Sülz to the stop Dasselstraße/Bahnhof Süd. The stop is about 200 metres from the Institute (see above). It takes approx. 20 minutes to get to the university from Cologne Central Station. (Taxi: ~ 12 ?)

Taxi

You can easily find a taxi following the signs to the taxi ranks, taxis are usually cream-colored. Taxis are relatively expensive (~ 2 ? / km). At night the charges are somewhat higher.
